High Sierra Horse Barn: Classic Design Built for Work
This High Sierra 48 horse barn, built in early 2015 is a great example of planning for the long term. These owners wanted a barn with classic style and real functionality—something that would look great and work well as they continued developing their equestrian property.
Designed for Open Landscapes
The High Sierra’s 5/12 roof pitch gives it that low, traditional look that fits naturally in wide-open fields. At 36′ x 48′, it provides 1728 square feet of well-planned space. The 12’6″ sidewall height and 21′ ridge height and creates good interior headroom and space for ceiling fans without overwhelming the landscape.
Smart Interior Layout
Step inside and you’ll see how every area serves a purpose. Four stalls line one side, providing comfortable housing for horses. The other side handles all the support work: an insulated and heated tack room, wash bay, and storage space.
The heated tack room makes a real difference— equipment stays dry and warm year-round, and the water heater keeps the wash bay functional even in cold weather. No worries about frozen pipes or uncomfortable working conditions.
Concrete covers two-thirds of the barn for easy cleaning and equipment access, while the stalls have packed gravel and mats. Two ceiling fans keep air moving, working with the cupola to maintain ventilation throughout.
Getting More From The Space
Two open shed roofs maximize exterior space. One provides covered parking for trailers—keeping equipment protected and accessible. The other creates covered turnout space where the horses can get fresh air and stay social even during bad weather.
The exterior combines painted tongue and groove lower siding with matching rough sawn fir upper siding.

A low roof pitch and high sidewalls sets the High Sierra apart from our other gable barns. The low roof pitch helps the barn blend into its surroundings, while the sidewall height accommodates open or covered shed roofs for ample storage.
